You can cook (boil water) on both burners at the same time. I have had many two burner hot plates, and this is THE BEST. It is also available elsewhere for 100$ less.

Hands down this is a commercial quality hot plate that exceeded my expectation. There are 30-40 dollar hot plates out there and the moral of this story is you get what you pay for.
