I have had the older models now for six years. Haven't missed a beat. I live in a small cabin and this is the only stove I have. I use it for everything - I cook all my food from scratch. My Kuhn-Rikon pressure cooker works on it and the Zojirushi thermal pot cooker works also.
Don't shy away just because you don't want to buy All-Clad. Mine works with cast iron too.
Plus the Supentown website has some pans quite reasonable.
